The challenge
Growing a single product into a suite of tools for the Nuance Mix Platform. This included growth not just for the product, but also the increasing demand for conversational and generative AI, the expansion of the design team, and — most importantly — the evolution of Mix from inception to serving Fortune 100 companies.
The problem
Navigation and workflows had to be continually iterated upon in conjunction with the growth of the platform and its tool offerings. Additionally, as the product scaled, there was a critical need to expand the design team — including recruiting talent without prior conversational or generative AI experience.
The goal
Create an intuitive, powerful suite of tools that could serve a diverse set of users, from beginner to expert, enabling them to deliver world-class solutions. At the same time, grow the design team while mentoring, educating, and setting individuals up for long-term success.
The Approach
I approached the Mix platform as both a system and a journey:
System Thinking
Ensured information architecture and workflows could scale as Mix evolved from a single product into a suite of tools — enabling enterprise adoption and long-term platform growth.
End-to-End Flow
Connected the experience across all areas of Mix including landing page, Homepage, NLU, Dialog and Dashboard — creating a seamless journey from project creation through deployment.
Iterative Refinement
Continually adapted navigation and workflows in tandem with product growth and new enterprise requirements — improving clarity, consistency, and scalability with each release.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Worked closely with technical product management to manage workload and prioritization for the design team to ensure deliverables were achieved on time — keeping projects on schedule and aligned with client expectations.
Developer Relations
Partnered with developers to improve handoff, drive adoption of design patterns, and maintain alignment between IA, workflows, and engineering implementation — reducing rework and accelerating delivery.
Team Growth
Mentored and onboarded new designers, many without conversational AI experience — building team confidence, capability, and readiness to deliver at scale.
My Contribution
I led the information architecture and workflow design across the Mix platform — from user entry points to deployment — while aligning cross-functional teams and mentoring the design team.
Nuance Mix Landing Page

The Information Architecture
This information architecture illustrates my impact across the Nuance Mix platform. My contributions spanned the end-to-end experience — from entry points like the Landing Page, which drove signup and adoption, through the full in-tool experience: Home, project creation, optimization in NLU, and Dialog, to deployment and management in the Dashboard Manage tab. By influencing these key areas, I helped shape Mix into a cohesive, scalable platform that could grow with enterprise adoption.
Note:
I contributed content and strategy for the Learn tab; prior to the Learn tab launch, I was responsible for creating learning materials and resources that supported users in adopting Mix.
Mix Landing Page
I designed the Mix landing page to tell the story of the platform and drive early adoption during the beta release.
Focused Area:
Nuance Mix Landing Page (entry point designed to tell the Mix story and drive beta adoption).
The need
In the rush to go live with beta, the product management team had not anticipated the need for a dedicated product landing page to support the beta release of Nuance Mix, creating a gap in sign-up and adoption.
The goal
Establish a compelling entry point that told the story of Mix, showcased its value, and encouraged users to sign up for the beta.
Contribution
Leveraged my marketing and advertising background to design the content strategy and visual story for the landing page, ensuring it communicated value propositions clearly.
Outcome
Delivered a launch-ready landing page that drove early adoption and positioned Mix effectively with enterprise clients.
Note:
I was also involved in the original beta release sign-up and login experience. Those designs are not shown here, as the flows evolved over time and were later redesigned by other members of the team.
Mix Home
I designed the Mix Home page as a central hub to connect users not only to their projects, but also to education, community, updates, and feedback.
Focused Area:
Nuance Mix Home (central hub for projects, education, updates, and community).
The need
As Mix expanded, users needed more than just access to NLU and Dialog. Without a dedicated Home page, they lacked a clear place to discover education, sample projects, documentation, feature updates, and community engagement.
The goal
Create a central hub that highlighted Mix’s full value beyond the core tools — giving users orientation, resources, and visibility into what’s new — while also providing quick access to their most recent projects, the full project list, and project creation.
Contribution
Identified the unmet need for a platform-wide Home page and defined the content structure to support both learning and productivity. Designed the page to balance educational and community resources with direct access to projects and creation workflows.
Outcome
Delivered a Home page that became the connective layer of Mix, improving discoverability of resources, driving community engagement, and providing users with a clear entry point into both their projects and the broader Mix ecosystem.
Mix Projects
As part of the design team, I contributed to shaping the Projects tab — and over time became the domain expert for the Dashboard, including Projects.
Focused Area:
Focused Area: Mix Projects (hub for project creation, access, and features).
The need
A single place to create and manage projects holistically. Users needed a consistent way to launch NLU and Dialog, view project metadata, and add features such as multi-language, team members, domains, or importing/exporting resources.
The goal
Provide users with a central Projects tab that offered an intuitive workflow for what became an increasingly complex project setup — enabling them to start projects, access tools, view metadata, and expand with advanced features like multi-language, membership, and domains.
Contribution
Partnered with the design team, product, and engineering to shape project creation, metadata visibility, and features such as multi-language, membership, domains, import/export, and data packs. Over time, I became the domain master for the Dashboard, owning the evolution of Projects to support user needs.
Outcome
Delivered a Projects hub that streamlined project creation and access, gave users visibility into project details, and allowed them to add features as needed without creating unnecessary complexity.
Note:
I was also involved in the original beta release of the project creation module, where I oversaw the UX. Those early designs are not shown here, as the flow later evolved into a multi-step process and was redesigned by other members of the team.
Mix NLU
I designed the Mix Home page as a central hub to connect users not only to their projects, but also to education, community, updates, and feedback.
Focused Area:
Mix NLU (Develop for beginners, Optimize for experts, and Discover for analysis and validation).
This expanded IA illustrates how I aligned NLU’s Develop, Optimize, and Discover tabs into a cohesive workflow — giving beginners clarity in building models while enabling experts to refine and iterate quickly with advanced tools.
The need
NLU had to serve two distinct user groups. Beginners needed intuitive workflows in Develop to create intents, entities, and sample sentences without being overwhelmed. Experts required more advanced capabilities in Optimize to refine models, apply AI automation, and analyze performance across larger datasets.
The goal
Deliver a cohesive NLU environment that balanced accessibility for beginners with power for experts. This meant aligning Develop for clarity, introducing Optimize for advanced refinement, and expanding Discover to support analysis and validation.
Contribution
Collaborated with the design team on early iterations of NLU workflows across Develop and Discover. Partnered with product and engineering to evolve features for intents, entities, and sample sentences. Over time, I became the domain master for NLU, taking ownership of the end-to-end experience and introducing the Optimize tab to serve expert users with AI automation and advanced model views.

Mix Manage
I designed the Mix Home page as a central hub to connect users not only to their projects, but also to education, community, updates, and feedback.
Focused Area:
Manage tab (central hub for builds, applications, and organizations).
Applications
While my contributions to Manage included Builds, Applications, and Organizations, this section focuses on the Applications tab — the workflow for creating configurations and deploying to apps. This was where I drove the most impactful refinements, introducing a scalable design that evolved to support multi-channel and multi-language deployments.
Focused Area:
Applications tab (workflow for creating configs and deploying to apps).
The need
Enterprise users needed a single place to manage builds, deploy configurations to applications, and organize projects at scale. Early workflows were fragmented, namespaces caused confusion, and there was no clear home for organizational structures.
The goal
Refine Manage into a scalable hub that centralized builds, resolved namespace issues, provided deployment through the Applications tab, and introduced Organizations to support enterprise-level structure.
Contribution
I redefined namespaces as Organizations, giving enterprise users a clear structure for managing teams and projects.
